What role does color play in creating the illusion of transparency?
Q. How can we create an illusion of transparency when working with opaque media? What different spatial situations can we create through the illusion of transparency? How are these effects created?

A. I take it this is a school question & you are looking for somebody to answer for you..you lazy li'l thing!! OK then. Think Venn diagram. left circle is blue. Right circle is yellow. Overlap area is green. All opaque colours but suggest transparency.

Is it possible to create the illusion of holding more than possible in a bag?
Q. I'm going to possibly be wearing costumes in the future. I wanted to create one of those Bag O' Props like they do in cartoons, but being real of course. Is it possible through illusion or careful placement to have a rediculous amount of stuff in a bag that looks like it wouldn't fit. Things I would probably have would be a cartoon style anvil, some juggling pins, and noise makers and such that I can be funny with.

A. have a baggy costume and have a bag attached to it except put a hole in the bag and sew it onto a matching hole on the costume when you put things in the bag, they will go through the hole and into your costume - giving the illusion of holding more than possible

Can you get the illusion of a deck board being warped when the board spans a long distance?
Q. I am having a deck built, it approx 16 x 10 feet. The decking is spanning the 16 foot width. A few of the boards appear to be warped along the width of the board, the appear to run in a curve. The boards that appear this way are near the suppport posts that are sticking up for the railing. The boards that are not near posts appear straight. Nonetheless when measuring from the wall to the edge of the boards along the length of the boards the measurement is consistent. The railing and spindles have yet to be put up. I am wondering if the posts are giving an illusion of the boards being warped and if that illusion will go away when the spindles and railing have been put in place.

A. Believe your measurements. When you get your deck furniture in place, you won't notice. Any remaining illusion will be handled with a stiff cocktail.

How do you make an illusion just by drawing it?
Q. I want to make a ttly new kind of illusion, unlike those swirls and circles.
Asked by bon_fire17 - Wed Dec 20 12:43:12 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. there are many sites you can visit to create ideas. an illusion is basically seeing something that isn't there or a trick your brain thinks is true. for instance the moon when close to the city is very large even though it is no farther away. our brain makes the connection that it should be this way because the items surrounding the moon are all large in comparison. you can make illusions with many articles. the best way to make a new illusion is to experiment, i started with lines. if you put them closer and closer together see what happens.

A. Yes, hang a white sheet. The idea situation is to then shine very bright lights on the sheet from the front. This will then give you a whited out background. Without the lights would will see any wrinkles and shadows on the sheet.

can you tell the difference between illusion and the real thing?
Q. for etc when you turn and see a human standing and then you turn away from him and after a few seconds you look at him again and he's gone does that mean you just imagine him or he was really there? I mean if you are in a house or a flat not in open spaces? Is it a illusion? and how can your brain create a person or thing with out seeing that person or thing somewhere for real?

A. This is gonna sound weird, and maybe someone else can explain it better, but, sometimes we see with our brain instead of our eyes. In other words, we see what we expect to see.

Is the difference between capitalism and socialism really that important as long as the illusion of freedom?
Q. exists? I say the "illusion of freedom" because I don't believe we are ever truly "free". Also, as long as we have that believe that we live in a fair society, does it really matter how capitalist or socialist the society is? I believe a major difference between conservatives and liberals is that conservatives believe that we do now live in a fair society or have gone to the extreme on fairness, while liberals believe that society is still not fair enough.

A. "Social Justice" isn't Freedom. Extortion from those that are giving to society what it is willing to pay for isn't Justice. The Left always points to Law Enforcement, Fire Departments, & Military as socialism. Start asking yourself how many Fire Departments does the Rich need? Their assets aren't usually confined to one location. Law Enforcement has similarities to the fire Department. The Rich are usually paying enough taxes to fully pay for what they need. Out the goodness of their hart they are sharing these assets. Do you truthfully wish the Rich to own & control these assets as well have their own private Army? The top 1% pay more than enough Taxes to supply their needs to this level as well as have a private Hospital… [cont.]

What changes the way a person perceives an optical illusion?
Q. What different things can change the way a person (any age) perceives an optical illusion? Anything can help , but please leave links from where you found any info. Thank you ! =)
Asked by Leann - Wed Apr 2 20:23:26 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Inverse Square Law--- The brightness of an object decreases dramatically as we move farther from the source. The result is due to a larger "sphere" of influence. Light from a source like a star shines in all directions, to the area of illumination increases with increasing distance so the total brightness thins out. Well, that's the way i know, having to do with magnification and stuff.

How to make the illusion of side swept bangs with a pony tail?
Q. i was thinking about getting side swept bangs but i want to know a way to test the waters without cutting my hair to make sure they're what i want. Does any one know the steps of making this illusion, i would prefer a video or step by step directions.
Asked by ~2 Hot 4 TV~ - Sun Jul 5 18:20:27 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I actually wanted the same look a while ago so I did it myself! I made a horizontal part in my hair at the crown (so all of that hair is in your face) and the rest I put in a ponytail. It takes a little maneuvering but I got it done. Then add a side part to the hair that's in your face. I don't know how long your hair is so I don't know what kind of illusion this will give you, but I liked mine so I started cutting my bangs long at first (angled, to my chin) and then went shorter from there until I was satisfied. But I wouldn't suggest cutting them yourself unless you are really sure. I hope you like your hair!

Is life the most convincing illusion ever created ?
Q. Considering that life is funneled through our eyes which our brain interprets light and our ears which our brain deciphers sound waves. Our entire "world" is made up of waves of light and sound which all comes together somewhere within the brain...Not to mention the brain on the outside is completely fabricated along with our bodies and the rest of the universe. What is this magnificent illusion we have created?

Are different religions really just different brands of rejecting reality to maintain an illusion?
Q. You know, that s the one concept that every religion has in common, ever since the dawn of religion; they all reject reality to maintain an illusion. Some of them reject a little reality and some reject a lot.

A. Still, you should get a library card and check out why both Plato and Aristotle maintain that the existence of God can be known with certainty by reason alone. As does St Paul by the way. SO, you are ignorant even of what you are opposing.

Make the illusion of kissing yourself in a picture?
Q. I've been messing with photoshop and gimp for a while trying to figure out how to make the illusion of you kissing yourself. To tell the truth I'm no where near figureing this out. I've seen it done but I just don't know how. Help? Please?

A. Tripod. Take two pictures of yourself in profile, puckering. One with your eyes shut, one open. Flip one and merge together. Or take two pictures of yourself kissing yourself in the mirror, slightly off profile -- again, one eyes shut, one eyes open. Merge for that would be easier as you could just cut and paste part of one over part of the other.

Will two people have illusion of being in a relationship if constantly invading personal space?
Q. The lady and the guy constantly invade each other personal space when talking or walking. Besides, they may have accidental brushes and tease each other, will they have illusion of being in a relationship?
Asked by Crystalline - Wed Jan 28 05:29:28 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. No, I really doubt that there can be an illusion of being in a relationship can ever take place. The only thing that's close enough is when a pair is going everywhere together and are together all the time, most likely making out and stuff, but if they just haven't made it official. The case you're talking of is just getting closer together. It could be just friendly, but in this context I believe that it's just an indication that something more is actually possible. To round off, I believe this situation should be used as an advantage in getting a girl.

What did Einstein mean when he said Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one."?
Q. People are using this quote to prove their view that reality is an illusion, so is that what he meant or is it a misquote? Ray, I had a feeling that it was a missquote. It looks like people read that quote and just interpreted it to suit their agenda.Maybe this is reality after all.

A. I call fake on this one. A look in Google Books for appearance in published sources finds no sign of attribution to Einstein before around 1998 ( ) and it has been sitting in the unsourced list on Wikiquote for a long time. The only thing he wrote vaguely along these lines was in a letter of condolence about a friend who had died: "Now he has departed from this strange world a little ahead of me. That means nothing. People like us, who believe in physics, know that the distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion". - see Wikiquote PS Alcohol & Irony - that other question may well have answers, but they're meaningless speculation if Einstein never said it.

Asked by Brad - Tue Dec 30 00:59:29 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The reason why it does this is probably because your computer is just plain to slow. you will need to upgrade either the ram CPU or better yet the video card to get the results you are looking for. If your doing this on a note book the only way is to upgrade the ram since the other 2 components aren't upgradable on notebooks

A. I would show the whole class the picture for 2 to 5 seconds. Then take the picture away (Flip board, projector (turn the light on and off)) Ask the class to write down their gender and what they saw. Collect the notes. Here is a good one if you have access to computer with a projector. Most males are Left Brain and most females are Right Brain
