Childfree (sometimes spelled child-free) is a term used to describe individuals who neither have children nor desire to have children. An alternative term is childless by choice. The choice not to procreate has been a more available option since the development of reliable birth control, and has become increasingly common since the 1960s. Childfree social groups first emerged in the 1970s, most notable among them The National Organization for Non-Parents and No Kidding!. There have been numerous books written about childfree people and quantitative academic research is now emerging. Childfree individuals do not necessarily share a unified political or economic philosophy, and most prominent childfree organizations tend to be social in nature. There are, however, a range of social positions related to childfree interests, and political and social activism in support of these interests has become increasingly commonplace. People = People who have children or those who want children in future. Asked by Razor - Wed Jul 1 11:18:25 2009 - - 15 Answers - 0 Comments A. I'm childfree myself and I've heard all kinds of judgement and comments. All from the famous ''How can you be happy without children?'' to ''You are so selfish for saying that''; you name it - I've heard it. I don't understand the people who feel the need to openly criticize my choice even though no one has asked them to voice their opinion. Don't they think that I should have the right to make a choice not to bear a child same as they'd made their choice to be parents? They think it means childless . Anyway, I am 42, and child-free. I spend a lot of time with the child-free crowd at my place of employment. Most of us are over 50. I also was once a member of No Kidding (a child-free club). I have been to child-fee conventions. I have never met anyone that had any regrets. If they exist, surely I would have encountered them by now. I live near a community where most people are over 60, and retired. Many of them are child-fee, as most people that raised children could never afford to live in such a community. Not one has every made mention of regrets. Q. I live in TX and am looking to make childfree friends. I am married and am not looking to date at all. Is it possible to use the internet to make new friends to do things with? Especially when you're middle aged? Asked by mruzza9 - Mon Mar 24 18:56:07 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. I have the same problem. You might be better off hooking up with some local Child-free. I have found that Child-free people are pretty nice in person. Over the net they seem to be a little less friendly (all the negative chat, etc). Check here for a local chapter of "No Kidding". That way you can link up with some local people. Answered by Still Green after 20 years - Tue Mar 25 18:54:45 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Childfree"
